Our Work in Action

We caught up with network member Lauren Hagadorn, who teaches at Bedford High School in Bedford, NH, to find out what change idea she’s currently testing with her students.

“My change idea right now is to give my students the tools to tackle non-routine problem-solving tasks,” said Lauren. “I provide my students time to reason through pre-thinking questions such as, ‘What is the end goal of the task?,’ ‘What important information are you given?,’ and ‘What clarifying questions do you have?’ before beginning their work on a task and then asking them to look back after completing the task and reflect on their original thoughts to ensure they have completed the task fully and considered all the information.”

“So far, it is going pretty well; students who are thinking through these questions and answering them thoroughly tend to do better on the task as a whole,” said Lauren.
